It’s always a delight to accompany amateur sleuth Sally Witherspoon as she takes time from her bar-owner job to bring murderers to justice. You’ve got to love a spunky middle-aged single woman who runs a biker bar and does a side hustle helping the local law enforcement solve serious crimes. The holiday setting of this third book in the series brings a touch of charm and festivity to the sadness the small town of Berry Springs experiences as some of their older citizens succumb to what appears to be intentional poisoning. Leave it to Sally to get answers in this difficult-to-solve murder case.
Nestled in the Ozarks, Berry Springs is a friendly small town where everyone knows everyone’s business. But as tight a community as it is, Berry Springs is no stranger to murder. With determination and a sense of good humor, Sally interviews friends and townspeople as they celebrate the holiday season with food, decorating and get-togethers while reeling from the unexpected deaths of several of the town’s beloved seniors. Added to Sally’s stress in navigating the holiday season, her biker bar business, and the town’s tragedies is her upcoming 60th birthday and her parents' advancing age. When they insist on coming for a visit, Sally worries they will be the next victims. I loved the interaction between Sally and the locals, along with this glimpse of her personal life.
Sally’s voice comes through the narrative, her feisty attitude propelling the reader along with her as she digs her heels in to find the killer and stop further deaths. Suspense builds as Sally becomes more involved than she would like to be, and the case takes a more personal turn. Dealing with real-life issues, along with the danger of a murderer close to her, Sally doesn’t let anything keep her down.
If you’re looking for a fun, holiday-themed cozy mystery, Death for Sale fits the bill perfectly. You’ll love spending time with lovable Sally Witherspoon as she restores peace and calm to her beloved town of Berry Springs. With the suggestion of a possible future romance for Sally, I will be tuned for the next book in the series. Can’t wait to see what she gets up to next!
