My Husband's Wife by Alice Feeney

Okay, wow. This is the craziest book I’ve read in a long time. Five plus stars. Absolutely brilliant! From the first pages, My Husband’s Wife had me wondering what on earth was going on. With each new twist (and there are plenty!) I wondered how Feeney was going to pull this off. The revelations were unbelievable, and yet everything tied in so well and made sense by the end.
I loved the multiple POVs, alternating between the present and the past. Each perspective brought a shocking turn to every chapter, and I wondered whether there was something paranormal going on because I struggled to understand how things could be what they were. This is what makes it an amazing psychological thriller—getting into the headspace of characters, each telling how they perceive things, leaving the reader in the dark till all is exposed. With one “What?” moment after another, these characters induce readers’ whiplash. An easy read, but a difficult read at the same time. This is one puzzle I doubt most readers will be able to solve, even though the pieces are all there. Everything I think a psychological thriller should be.
The way Feeney linked one chapter to another was unique. It flowed seamlessly, from one character to another. Unreliable narrators, an isolated mansion, subtle clues, and a fast-paced plot drive this book forward. A gothic feel to the atmospheric setting is enhanced with the backstory of the previous owner of Spyglass, home to several characters, and the high tech storyline of a company that predicts death dates.
If you’re looking for a thriller to get you out of a reading slump, this is it. A page-turner if ever there was one. And I love how all my burning questions were answered by the end. Still, I can see how there could be a sequel. I’d love to read more. It’s my first Feeney book (although I watched the series His and Hers), but I will definitely be adding more to my list.
