Okay, so this book, recommended by a friend, piqued my interest with its premise. And although it started out as a slow burn for me, with the introduction of characters and their backgrounds, it quickly picked up steam and took off at the speed of a runaway train. The intricate weaving of their lives through flashbacks is done with a purpose. All the past stories of the players connect to the current storyline and lead to their current predicament.

The ultimate locked-room mystery, With a Vengeance is exactly what the title promises. A tale of revenge, executed with a passion. Twelve years after a painful loss, Anna entices the six people she holds responsible for her ruined life onto a train for a surprise reunion. No other passengers, and no stops until they reach their final destination where the FBI await their arrival, and justice will be served. As the train barrels down the track, it becomes apparent there are more people onboard, and one of them is a killer. The fate of the six passengers may be justice in a different form than Anna has planned.

Told through the point of view of each of the characters, the complex plot is full of twists, culminating with dizzying revelations. One after another, the shocking truths are exposed during this propulsive story in which more than one person seeks revenge. Definite Agatha Christie vibes with the added thrill of a haunted woman trapped in the cage where she has imprisoned her worst enemies.

A great post-war historical mystery/thriller on a luxury train bound for Chicago, With A Vengeance is a fast-paced, tense and suspenseful ride. Agatha Christie fans will devour this in one sitting!
